But have you ever wondered what the real story is behind the numbers?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I recently stumbled upon a tweet that piqued my curiosity and put me on the path of relentless research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-lang=\"en\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I&#39;ve written over 10k tweets.<br><br>In 5 months.<br><br>Think it was luck?<br><br>Think again.<\/p>&mdash; Tim Schreiber (@TimSRD_) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TimSRD_\/status\/1788116131376476163?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">May 8, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>It claimed the author wrote <strong>over 10,000 tweets in 5 months<\/strong> \u2013 with a follower count just shy of 2,200 at the time of data analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"highlight\">That translates to roughly <strong>4.9 tweets per follower<\/strong>. Yikes! My gut instinct screamed &#8220;Slow growth!&#8221;, doesn&#8217;t yours?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But hold on a second. Since Analytical Thinking is my middle name, I decided to dig deeper.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s the thing: there&#8217;s no magic tweet-to-follower ratio. It&#8217;s more like a <strong>benchmark number you can reference yourself<\/strong> to. Which brings us to the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shedding Light on Some &#8220;Average&#8221; Twitter Stats<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Just to clarify; I sifted through a mountain of data (<strong>all manually<\/strong>, to ensure real people, not bots, were involved). This took a long time.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here&#8217;s the short rundown in video format:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"YouTubeWide\" align=\"center\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ln65kL-SkJ8\" title=\"How Many Tweets Should You Write to Get ONE Follower? [And More]\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>So here&#8217;s the full rundown of all &#8220;means and medians&#8221; you can calculate from a large data set of Twitter profiles, so you know where you stand with your own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Many Times Do You Have to Tweet to Get One Follower?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"highlight\">On average, to snag a single follower, you&#8217;ll need to tweet <strong>roughly 9.37 times<\/strong>. Maybe yes, but not likely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Solid insight, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But wait, there&#8217;s more! There are many more factors that influence follower growth on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Additional Twitter Metrics to Know<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>My analysis revealed some fascinating patterns in the data. Here&#8217;s a detailed breakdown of some interesting metrics you might want to know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Account Age Matters (A Lot)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Turns out, <strong>the longer your account&#8217;s been around, the more followers<\/strong> you tend to have. But does this mean that you can just create an X account and let it sit?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, yes. It quite simply could! But&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We have to take into account that older X profiles typically have posted more often than fresh accounts. So, we should maybe put this data in relation to the number of Tweets, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ll get to that shortly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Follow-for-Follow Works<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Have you ever heard of &#8220;follow-for-follow&#8221;?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It might sound a bit too easy, but the data suggests <strong>the more people you follow, the more likely they are to follow you back<\/strong>. Yes, those are so obviously bot accounts&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The example screenshot shows such a bot account with an astronomical following\/follower ratio of approximately 63.98.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That&#8217;s just sad.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The More You Post, the Faster You Grow<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>No surprise here, <strong>the more you tweet per month, the more followers you tend to gain<\/strong>. But the real eye-opener lies in the rates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The average user tweets a whopping<strong> 548 times a month<\/strong>! Thankfully, the median is a somewhat saner <strong>200.33 tweets<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"highlight\">Do you realize that this means the average X account (in my analysis) <strong>posts roughly 18 times PER DAY?!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, those folks posting 548 times are also racking up an average of<strong> 94 new followers monthly<\/strong>. It clearly shows a correlation between the growth rate of an account and its Tweet rate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"highlight\">This means that the more often you Tweet and the longer you&#8217;ve had your account, the more followers you have &#8211; both tweet rate and account age being of similar importance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It also means that the more you Tweet per month, the more followers you gain per month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So no, just letting your account sit and <strong>posting nothing at all isn&#8217;t a real option if you want to grow quickly<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Important Twitter (X) Benchmarks<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#8217;s translate all this data into actionable insights, so you can calculate where your X profile stands. So, the median (being at <strong>607<\/strong>) is a much better reference number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Fun fact: The account with the highest TMFF in my analysis has one of 37279.90!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-a5331a9e wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\" style=\"padding-top:0;padding-right:0;padding-bottom:0;padding-left:0\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"padding-top:0;padding-right:0;padding-bottom:0;padding-left:0\">\n<p>A <strong>TMFF under 200 isn&#8217;t good<\/strong> and might indicate a lack of activity, questionable practices, or a content strategy that&#8217;s missing the value mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Conversely, anything <strong>over 607 suggests you&#8217;re doing something (or quite a lot) right<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<div data-aos= \"fade-up\" data-aos-duration=\"400\" data-aos-delay=\"0\" data-aos-easing=\"ease\" data-aos-once=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-uagb-counter uagb-block-cdc93b41 wp-block-uagb-counter--number\"><span class=\"wp-block-uagb-counter__image-wrap\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-block-uagb-counter__image\" src=\"https:\/\/ptg-marketing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/PTG_Marketing_thumbs_Up_Icon.webp\" alt=\"PTG Marketing; An Icon of a thumbs up.\" width=\"70\" height=\"70\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/span><div class=\"wp-block-uagb-counter__number\"><span class=\"uagb-counter-block-prefix\">> <\/span><span class=\"uagb-counter-block-number\" data-duration=\"1.5\" data-to-value=\"607\" data-from-value=\"0\" data-delimiter=\",\"><\/span><span class=\"uagb-counter-block-suffix\"> TMFF<\/span><\/div><div class=\"wp-block-uagb-counter__title\"><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Caveat<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, just because I&#8217;ve analyzed some data, doesn&#8217;t mean my analysis is 100% correct. In fact, it likely isn&#8217;t (it&#8217;s more like 90%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ll be updating this post from time to time with more and fresher data to reflect the changing landscape of X and social media in general.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We&#8217;ll see what happens to the results over the course of the next few months, years, or even decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I hope you got some insight into how well you might be doing on X &#8211; at least in comparison to other profiles out there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"highlight\">Pay attention to your <strong>T\/F ratio<\/strong> (strive for under 8 or so), your <strong>Fng\/F ratio<\/strong> (keep it under 0.5), and your <strong>TMFF<\/strong> (over 600 or so).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;m <strong>planning on creating a calculator<\/strong> of sorts where you can just enter your number of published Tweets, followers, and followings, plus your account age.
